Hyundai Mulling Performance Versions of i30 Hatch and i40 Sedan

Hyundai is contemplating the development of performance variants of its new i30 hatchback (called Elantra GT in the States) and the i40 sedan.

At least that’s what Hyundai Europe Chief Operating Officer Allan Rushforth said during the launch of the all-new i30 when asked if there are any plans for hotter versions.

“A Hyundai GTi? That’s not just a C-segment question, but a D-segment one as well”, he replied, referring to the i30 and i40 respectively, according to Autocar magazine. “We have talked about such cars and are considering versions not only with more performance, but dynamic improvements to ride and handling, too”, he elaborated.

New Hyundai Azera Starts from $32,000*, a $6,605 Premium Over its Predecessor

More often than not, building better vehicles comes at a price but Hyundai's clientele may not be very happy about the company's pricing strategy with the brand-new 2012 Azera that starts at $32,000 (€24,500), not including an $875 delivery and handling fee that pushes the price to $32,875.

Granted, the redesigned Azera costs $4,725 less than the 2012 Lexus ES350 ($36,725), but it's also $6,605 more expensive than its predecessor and only $2,400 cheaper than Hyundai's more upscale and powerful Genesis V6 sedan, which features a 333HP 3.3-liter engine linked to an 8-speed auto.

Hyundai Debuts New 2013 Elantra Coupe to Take on the Honda Civic

The GT hatchback isn't the only addition Hyundai is making to the Elantra's North American lineup as the South Korean automaker also revealed the sporty looking Coupe model at the Chicago Auto Show.

While pretty simple in its execution, the transformation from four-door sedan to a two-door coupe seems to work visually.

Aside from the elongated front doors, the Coupe also gets different fog lamp surrounds, black trim on the lower part of the rear bumper and a new trunk incorporating a spoiler in the design.

It's also half an inch longer than the sedan at 178.7-inches, while the rest of the dimensions remaine the same at 69.9-inches wide, 56.5-incnes tall with a 106.3-in. wheelbase.

Hyundai says that the Elantra Coupe's total interior volume of 110.2 cubic feet and 14.8 cubic feet trunk both exceed the 2012 Honda Civic Coupe and 2012 Kia Forte Koup by "large margins".

Is this Hyundai Driver Extremely Lucky or Talented?

To answer our own question, probably a little bit of both, though the first thing that comes to mind upon viewing the clip is that the person driving the Hyundai Getz is reckless for zipping through traffic on a road with reduced traction due to the snow and ice.

Nevertheless, you cannot but admire the fact that the driver managed to get out of this hazardous situation without hurting anyone.

There's a good chance that the Getz didn't even touch the other cars on the opposite side of the road during its crazy slalom, but we're not entirely sure about that one. Pass the jump to watch the incident which starts at around 30 seconds into the video.

Hyundai Still Thinking About Making Genesis a Separate Luxury Brand

Korean carmakers have made impressive progress in the last decade. From below-par products that were chosen by people who wanted a new car and couldn’t afford anything pricier, Hyundai and Kia models quickly become competitive in most segments.

And we're not the only ones who say this; even VW's boss is wondering why his company's products can't match Hyundai’s quality in certain areas.

No matter how good a car is, though, preconceptions die hard. For certain people, the badge on the hood says a lot about not only the car, but themselves as well; no quality survey, iPad manual, road-test review or 10-speed auto transmission is not going to change that in the foreseeable future

Did Hyundai Omit 40mpg Claim on Elantra Super Bowl ad Because of Consumer Watchdog?

It happens to every new car buyer: you look at the car’s specs and among other things; you take notice of its official fuel economy numbers. Then you may discover that in real-world conditions, the mileage you eke out of a single tank is nowhere near the quoted figure.

The discrepancy is sometimes so big that you are either driving like a maniac (which in some cases may be true), or there’s something’s fishy with the official mileage estimates. Are consumers tricked by carmakers as far as fuel consumption is concerned, as some claim?

Consumer Watchdog (CW), a non-profit organization that advocates taxpayer and consumer interests, believes so and is making a fuss about it. The organization has urged the EPA to perform tests itself and has even threatened to employ “guerilla” tactics if its demands are not satisfied.

The latest issue was about Hyundai’s Super Bowl commercial for the 2012 Elantra that appeared on YouTube.

Hyundai Airs Four More Super Bowl XLVI Ads

The onslaught of Super Bowl commercials continues today with four more spots from Hyundai, in addition to the South Korean firm's Veloster Turbo "Cheetah" ad that we showed you earlier today.

From the new spots, the one that stands out the most for us is the "All for One", which is a 60-second commercial that will air just before the big game starts. The ad features almost 200 actual Hyundai team members humming to the sounds of "Gonna Fly Now" from the movie "Rocky, and was filmed at the brand's Montgomery plant in Alabama.

Hyundai's Super Bowl Spot Starring the Veloster Turbo and a Hungry Cheetah

It was to be expected that Hyundai's main commercial for the upcoming Super Bowl XLVI would encompass its most recent creation, the new 201-horsepower Veloster Turbo sports hatch that made its world premiere at the Detroit Motor Show earlier this month.

The 30-second spot is titled "Cheetah" and is slated to air on TV during the first quarter of the game. It shows a caged cheetah getting ready to race the Veloster Turbo. However, when the big cat realizes it can't beat the Hyundai model in speed it turns around to chase something a little more tasty.

Head over the break to see the new commercial along with a "behind the scenes" video before it airs on television.

Has the New Hyundai Santa Fe / ix45 SUV been Caught with its Guard Down?

Pictures allegedly showing an undisguised prototype of the new generation of the Hyundai Santa Fe are making the internet rounds today (keep in mind the front fascia image was created by mirroring the right hand side photo).

The styling cues such as the six-point grille and exterior mirrors seem to match the camouflaged test cars we've spied over the past few months, though we're not sure if this is the South Korean market version or not.

Rhys Millen Turns the Veloster Rally Car into a Golf Cart

Have you ever wondered what it would feel like taking a high-powered vehicle for a spin on manicured grass found on golf courses? Of course you did.

Hyundai and its partner Rhys Millen Racing had the same question as well, only being who they are; they actually had the opportunity to find out.

In Rhys Millen's second recent short promotional film for Hyundai after the drift clip with the Genesis Coupe, the professional racing driver hopped in the Veloster Rally car and played around with it on the golf course. Mosey on past the break to watch the video

New Survey Shows which Owners Would Buy from the Same Brand Again

Brand loyalty among customers is something all carmakers aspire to achieve, but sometimes that's easier said than done as proved by the results of J.D. Power and Associates' 2012 Customer Retention Study.

There's a lot to say about the survey that measures the rate at which automotive brands retain their existing customers and which is now in its ninth year, but we can't help but to start from the winner.

Amazingly, the brand that manages to keep most customers is Hyundai with a retention rate of 64%. The South Korean brand's feat is even more impressive if you consider that just two years ago it ranked below average with 47%!

Is the 2013 Dodge Dart Sedan Using an Automatic Transmission Supplied from Hyundai?

It's no secret that, aside from the Fiat Group-sourced 168bhp 1.4-liter turbocharged MultiAir engine, the new 2013 Dodge Dart compact sedan continues to use two powerplants from Chrysler's past.

You see, while the Detroit maker is marketing its 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter four-cylinder units under the new "Tigershark" moniker, both have their roots in the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance (GEMA) family of engines.

To explain, GEMA was a joint venture of the Chrysler Group, Mitsubishi Motors, and Hyundai Motor Company for the development of a line of shared four-cylinder gasoline engines. In 2009, Chrysler bought out the shares of Mitsubishi and Hyundai and continued GEMA on its own.

And here's where Hyundai comes into the picture. Citing unnamed sources, Car&Driver is reporting that the 2013 Dodge Dart's Tigershark engines are fitted with a Hyundai-supplied 6-speed automatic transmission.
